Larry Beeferman
Larry is an independent consultant who has worked with and for pension fund and other institutional investors, asset managers and consultants, union officials and staff, government officials, research, policy and advocacy organizations, and academics.
Previously, Larry helped establish and for many years led the Pensions and Capital Stewardship Project of the Labor and Worklife Program (LWP) at Harvard Law School and later was a Fellow at the LWP. He has researched and written papers, and given presentations in the U.S. and abroad on the design and operation of pension plans of diverse kinds geared to helping ensure financial security in retirement for plan members and capital stewardship for institutional investors. He has also organized numerous annual and special topic conferences on those issues for academics and practitioners in the public and private sphere. For a number of years he developed and ran an education program for public sector trustees.
Larry authored or co-authored important studies which included ones on infrastructure investment, HC3 and labor and human rights issues, fiduciary duty, Islamic finance, financial system reform, certain aspects of the retirement systems in Brazil and India, and on the efficacy of automatic enrollment in retirement plans.
Earlier in his career Larry helped establish the Asset Development Institute at Brandeis University, formulating a conceptual framework for asset development, researching and writing papers, and organizing meetings for and working with government official and representatives of diverse organization to develop and spur the implementation of such policies. He has taught constitution law, administrative law, legislation and legislative drafting, and conflict of laws as a tenured faculty member of the Massachusetts School of Law; and led a team of lawyers and researchers as part of the work of special investigatory commission looking to corruption and waste in public building construction and drafted legislation, which included the establishment of a capital planning and operations agency and on comprehensive campaign finance reform.
Larry holds a Ph.D. in Applied Physics from Harvard University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
